Background

Ndiko Ludidi is a Professor and Deputy Dean of Research at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town, South Africa. He completed his PhD in 2006 at UWC, followed by a brief lectureship position at the University of the Witwatersrand, before moving to the University of Stellenbosch. In 2011 he returned to UWC as group leader of the Plant Biotechnology Research Group (PBRG). Motivated by the importance of food security, his research investigates the genetic control of plant responses to salinity and drought stress, with a focus on soybean and maize, and other important crop species. Ndiko has a particular interest in the interplay of nitric oxide and oxidative damage that occurs as a result of salinity stress.
