Background

Olivier Loudet is group leader and senior scientist in the VAST (Variation and Abiotic Stress Tolerance) lab at the Institut Jean-Pierre Bourgin, INRA, France. He completed his PhD at INRA and followed up with a postdoctoral stint at the SALK Institute of San Diego, USA. His research focuses on mapping quantitative trait loci, applying this to the understanding of natural variation in shoot growth and response to abiotic stress, especially drought. Olivier pushes technological boundaries to help answer research problems, having developed a unique high-throughput phenotyping robot called the Phenoscope, which he combines with RNA-seq and association genetics to pinpoint QTLs to the gene level. Olivier’s ground-breaking research has been published extensively in Science, Nature Communications, Nature Genetics and Cell.
